1846 1/2 C Restrike PR66 Brown PCGS. More specifically
1846 1/2 C Restrike PR66 Brown PCGS. More specifically, this is a Second Restrike, as seen by the small berries and die file marks over RICA on the reverse. Breen (1983) rates the Second Restrikes as R.6. In his half cent reference he had only seen two pieces and knew of four others that were in private collections. The Second Restrikes and the Originals are roughly equivalent in scarcity, while the First Originals are considered a High R.7. This is a magnificent piece, as are all proof half cents and large cents. The wide, squared-off rims and brightly reflective fields set this piece apart as distinctly different from any well-produced circulation strike. While labeled as a Brown coin, the obverse displays significant underlying mint red. The reverse is a uniform teal-blue with bits of brown interspersed. As one would expect from a coin in this grade, the surfaces are essentially perfect. There are significant die striations in the fields which help impart the bright reflectivity on each side.
