1845<S$1> PR62 PCGS. Breen-5434, Bowers (1993) proof variety 1. The 8 in the date is widely repunched south, and the 4 shows light recutting on the crossbar. The final A in AMERICA exhibits a pair of points along the outer right upright, the usual reverse for 1840 to 1849 proofs. This exquisitely struck specimen exhibits noticeable white on black contrast, although the old green label PCGS holder does not designate the coin as Cameo. Some wispy hairlines in the fields are expected of the grade, and a swirled staple scratch is above the DO in DOLLAR. Pre-1858 proof Seated Dollars are decidedly rare, and are under ceaseless demand from advanced numismatists. Population: 1 in 62, 5 finer (6/05).
From The Dr. John L.
