1845$1> MS61 PCGS. The 1845 is one of the rarest of all Seated dollars in mint condition even though 24,500 pieces were produced. Only three pieces have been certified as MS61 by PCGS with seven finer (9/06), and NGC has graded six with seven finer. Undoubtedly much of the mintage was melted as these coins were worth more in bullion form than their face value. As with most Seated dollars from the 1840s, this piece has bright, semi-reflective fields. The striking details are a bit stronger on the obverse than the reverse. There are a few wispy marks in the fields that explain the grade of this mostly untoned coin.
