1845$1> MS61 PCGS. A scarce and overlooked Seated dollar with a mintage of only 24,500 pieces. While circulated examples are usually available for a price, in Mint State the 1845 is exceedingly rare. It is the rarest Philadelphia-minted dollar of the 1840s, and may well be the rarest P-mint in the series, including the 1851 and '52.
Light golden-gray toning covers each side, with some streaky indications of russet-peach color on the lower obverse. The obverse is well struck except for the right side stars and portions of Liberty's hair; on the reverse there is slight weakness on the eagle's plumage and left (facing) leg. The fields seem to have the usual semi-prooflike finish. There are no mentionable abrasions on either side, just a few wispy hairlines and nicks, in the fields, that restrict the grade. An exceptional opportunity for the advanced collector of this popular series. Population: 3 in 61, 7 finer (7/06).
