1845 N-14 R6+ Proof-Only
1845 N-14 R6+ Proof-Only. PCGS graded Proof 63 Brown. Chocolate and steel brown with delicate overtones of bluish steel and underlying very faded red on the obverse, bright mint red in protected areas of the reverse. Very sharply struck with deeply mirrored fields on the obverse and moderate to deep mirrors on the reverse. There are some light nicks on the front end of the eyebrow and a swipe of very fine crud from the top of the hairbuns through the bottom of star 9 to the dentils at the right, plus some microscopic hairlines in the reverse fields. Excellent eye appeal in spite of the minor defects, and the deep mirrors in the obverse fields are a big plus. Denis Loring calls this one Proof-63 and tied for finest known honors with two other examples. Our grade is Proof-60+, CC#4 in the Grellman census. And it comes from a long list of highly distinguished numismatists. The attribution and Dan Holmes provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the finest graded at PCGS is a Proof-64 Brown. Only 2 Proofs graded at PCGS for this variety. DWH #1859 (PCGS # 397605) .
Estimated Value $8,000-UP.
