July 30, 1845-Dated, Maryland Slave Auction Printed Broadside, Joshua Dill, Auctioneer, printed by the REPUBLICAN CITIZEN, Very Fine.

This very large, original and authentic Slave Broadside measures 18" x 23" and advertises a “PUBLIC SALE” in Frederick, Maryland on August 13, 1845. The highlight, listed as the first major item, “THE FOLLOWING PERSONAL PROPERTY,” of the sale was: “TWO NEGRO MEN, one a slave for life, the other for a term of years, the latter a good blacksmith."
This boldly printed Broadside continues with listings of other items such as; Horses, Hogs, a Threshing Machine, Household Furniture and more. It is quite graphic in its use of bold black text and various eye attracting fonts, displaying a great deal of character. Printed upon a heavy white wove period paper, that has been professionally restored as a minor loss along the lower left edge outer selvage and corner has been filled, with archival backing with rice paper for long-term preservation. A few written period notations on the blank reverse have moderate show-through at the top center, attesting to its complete originality. Everywhere else and all of the print areas being solid and fully original with no restoration. This is an uncommon and exceedingly rare, extremely large 1845-Dated, Maryland Slave Auction Printed Broadside this is of museum quality, being excellent for display.
