James K. Polk: A Rare Engraved Invitation for a March 4th, 1845 "Satellite" Inaugural Ball in Concord, New Hampshire. While it had become a tradition several presidencies earlier to hold a formal inaugural ball in Washington DC, it was not always realistic for many prominent citizens to make the pilgrimage to attend. Accordingly balls such as this one in the "granite state" were sometimes held. Among the many categories of paper political items, inaugural ball invitations are among the most prized and highly valued. This is an exceptionally nice example, measuring 5" x 7.75". Polk items of any kind are scarce, and its local issue suggests that few were issued or survived. The list of managers includes the name of Franklin Pierce, soon to serve as president himself. Condition is beautiful, virtually mint but for two minor crease lines where it was folded for insertion into the original envelope.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
