1845 $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. Ex: Bass. While the 1845 is a scarce coin in an absolute sense with just 91,051 pieces produced, it is among the more readily obtainable Liberty Quarter Eagles from the 1840s. This is an important BU quality survivor with a satiny finish and orange-gold highlights over deeply set green-gold undertones. The strike is uncommonly sharp for the type in virtually all areas, although we note a little softness of detail on the reverse over the eagle's left (facing) leg feathers. The dies that produced this coin were extensively cracked at the time of striking, most noticeably in several areas around the reverse periphery. There are, however, no singularly distracting abrasions. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
