1844 Whaling Content Letter
1844 Arthur Comstock Whaling Content Autograph Letter Signed “Art. Comstock”. Two pages, 7.5” x 12.5”, “on board the ship Parachute”, Northwest coast, June 24, 1844, in ink, to his father. An interesting letter from an obviously homesick son to his father which reads in part: “…we have taken seven whales (the boat I belong to…has taken 6 out of 7) we now have over 1700 barrels of oil. Ten more good whales will fill the ship and then we will crowd all sail for New Bedford.” The paper is uniformly toned with age and these is one 1” stain that only marginally affects one small are of text, else the letter is in very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
