1844 S$1 MS60 NGC. A well struck and satiny piece with 1844[S$1] MS60 NGC.
1844<S$1> MS60 NGC. A well struck and satiny piece with very light tan-gold color over each side. The obverse has a few unimportant marks in the right field, the reverse is a little scuffy above the eagle. As is the case for all business strike 1844 Silver Dollars, the obverse is die doubled and has quad stripes within the shield. The reverse features bold die polishing lines especially prominent below the eagle's wings near the shield, which prompted Breen to list it as the "Armpit Variety" in his 1988 Encyclopedia. The mintage of 20,000 pieces ensures that Mint State survivors are very rare. Census: 3 in 60, 12 finer (11/05).
From The Diamond Collection, Part One.
