<b>1844 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded MS63.</b> Lovely variegated toning atop full mint bloom on both sides. Close to fully struck, with merely a hint of softness at the rim dentils and a few stars &#40;but boldness throughout the eagle and Liberty&#41;. A scarce date in Mint quality since most found their way into circulation.

The American Whig party held its national convention in Baltimore this year, and on May 1, 1844, nominated Henry Clay as candidate for president. The news was hand-carried to Annapolis Junction &#40;between Washington and Baltimore&#41; where Samuel F. B. Morse&#39;s partner, Alfred Vail, wired it to the Capitol. This was the first news dispatched by electric telegraph <b>&#40;PCGS # 5406&#41;</b>
