<B>1844-D $2 1/2 AU53 NGC.</B></I> Variety 5-H. The scarcer of the two known varieties. As an issue, the '44-D is one of the more frequently encountered D-mint quarter eagles. It is scarce, though, in AU condition with only 45-50 examples believed known today. Well struck, the green-gold surfaces still show a slight trace of mint luster around the devices.
