1844-C $2 1/2 MS60 PCGS. Variety 6-E. A fire brok
1844-C<$2 1/2> MS60 PCGS. Variety 6-E. A fire broke out in the Charlotte Mint on July 28, 1844, forcing mint officials to cease production until early 1846. The absence of a C-mint Quarter Eagle delivery in 1845 resulted in increased public demand for the 11,662 coins delivered in 1844. Consequently, the 1844-C is not only more apt to be well circulated, but it is also one known as one of the worst produced issues from the Charlotte facility. This extremely scarce Uncirculated example does not lack for luster, being semi-reflective in finish with normal striking softness over the major devices. Population: 1 in 60, 3 finer (6/05).
