1844 50C MS64 PCGS. Writing in 1993, Randy Wiley and Bill Bugert had this to say about the rarity of the 1844: "Similar in scarcity to the 1844-O in circulated grades but more common in mint state as are most P-mints when compared to branch mints of the same date." In our opinion, this statement does not do justice to the rarity of the near-Gem that we are offering here. Despite a respectable original mintage of 1.7 million pieces, the '44-P is a significant condition rarity in the finer Mint State grades. In fact, this is the first MS64 representative that we have offered in more than two years. Boldly defined overall, the surfaces are richly toned in lavender-charcoal shades that lighten to champagne-red shades at direct angles. There are no readily evident abrasions. This coin is one of just 12 so graded examples at NGC and PCGS, and there are none finer (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
