1844<10C> MS62 NGC. It is definitely not the norm when the Philadelphia Mint produces both of the lowest-mintage issues for a type. The 1844 is the second-rarest issue of the type, following only the 1846. NGC and PCGS have certified only 11 Uncirculated pieces from the 72,500 coins struck. This example is well struck on almost all of the design elements, except for a few of the obverse stars. Distracting abrasions are absent. Light-gray in the centers, with speckled dark-green, red-brown, and deep purple patina at the peripheries. A coin for the true connoisseur of Seated Liberty dimes. Census: 2 in 62, 4 finer (8/06).
