<B>1843-O $5 Large Letters MS64 NGC.</B></I> The Large Letters variety of this issue is most easily attributed by the O mintmark directly above VE of the denomination. This is an interesting piece, with parallel roller marks visible on both sides, characteristic of the fairly weak strike through the centers. Yet there is much prooflikeness also visible, along with a few raised die lines, testament both to die polishing and the early--if incomplete--strike. Post-strike abrasions are minimal and scarcely seen without a loupe, however, and much luster is visible throughout. Some light die grease is noted on the cheek, as struck. A scarce issue in AU or finer, despite the small handful of Mint State piece known.
