<B>1843-O $2 1/2 Small Date, Crosslet 4 MS64 PCGS.</B></I> Two varieties are known for the 1843-O quarter eagle. The Small Date variety is more plentiful than the lower mintage Large Date variety. Despite the mintage of 288,002 coins for this issue, it is seldom found in the finer Mint State grades. In fact, this piece is tied for the finest that PCGS has ever certified (3/07). Just one finer Gem piece has been graded by NGC. This example is highly appealing with excellent detail and frosty yellow-gold luster. The surfaces have slight greenish tendencies. Each side has slight central weakness, especially evident on the left leg of the eagle.
