1843-O $10 AU58 PCGS. During the 1840s it almost appears as if the Philadelphia Mint (in its second facility since 1833) were competing with the New Orleans Mint (completed in 1839, although it struck its first silver coins in 1838). The two mints regularly flip-flop the record for most eagles coined during the decade. In 1843 New Orleans grabbed the laurel, with an eagle emission of 175,000-plus pieces, more than double Philadelphia's 75,000 coins. AU pieces are nonetheless scarce, and Mint State examples are rare. The present coin boasts boldly struck greenish-yellow surfaces with much prooflikeness and even more eye appeal. Population: 4 in 58, 6 finer (4/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
