1843 N-8 R2+ Type of 1842 with Repunched 184 MS63
1843 N-8 R2+ Type of 1842 with Repunched 184 MS63. Choice lustrous bluish steel and olive with 15% of the slightly faded mint red remaining, mostly on the reverse. Great eye appeal for the grade with just a few trivial marks. These include a small spot of darker olive toning in the field over the coronet tip, a tiny swipe of dark toning on the rim at star 12, and a shallow planchet flake on the rim under star 11. MDS, die state b. Minor crumbling has formed between the tip of the nose and the upper lip and the line at the inner curl is gone. In addition there are faint traces of shallow rim cud breaks at stars 8-9 and 11. The repunching on 184 remains visible. An important example of the variety, CC#2 in the Grellman census. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS66RB (NGC label included).
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
