Rather glossy medium brown and chocolate. The stamp is strong, the host cent is smashed. Devins & Bolton was a merchant in Montreal, Quebec. They operated a wholesale and retail establishment as chemists and druggists. The partnership began in 1863 and ended in 1892. Most of the thousands of their stamps are on large cents, but they stamped most everything they could get their hands on, including various foreign coins. A cheap and probably effective way to advertise at that time.
