1843 LAND DEED SIGNED BY PRESIDENT JOHN TYLER
1843 LAND DEED SIGNED BY PRESIDENT JOHN TYLER. Dated April, 21, 1843. Framed land deed deals with the conveyance of 30 acres of land along the Ohio River to Nathaniel Massie. The land was originally conveyed to Lt. Isham Keith for three years of military service. Nathaniel Massie was Lt. Keith's sole heir. Paper seal is visible in lower left. Deed has been laminated and shows some vertical tearing. Deed is signed in lower right by President John Tyler, a Whig who was elected Vice President under President William Henry Harrison. In 1941, Tyler was elevated to the office of the Presidency after Harrison's death. Tyler was born in 1790 in Charles City County, Virginia, not far from his running mate's (Harrison's) birthplace at Berkely Plantation. Tyler died in 1862 in Richmond, Virginia and was subsequently laid to rest at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond.
