1843 Hall North breech loading carbine in very good plus to near fine condition with .58 caliber rifle barrel and fishtail lever probably one of infamous Fremont Folly Halls. The notorious financier J.P. Morgan overcharged the government for reselling these arms by rifling them and never taking title before they were delivered to Freemont in St. Louis.(refer Flayderman 98 – 277) The barrel retains 80% to 90% original tobacco color browned finish that is still bright with just some minor scratches and beginning light erosion towards the muzzle. The sides of the frame also show bright tobacco brown and the breach block shows considerable finish dulling slightly. The stocks are very good with some losses along the ramrod channel, dings, mars, scratches and a couple of dents and military type use. There is a light visit visible cartouche on the right side of stock just behind the action. The trigger guard shows 50% to 70% original brown and the butt plate shows traces of original brown. The interior shows almost no use and the markings are sharp. The original saddle ring and bar are retained along with ramrod. A strong 8.5 on a 1 to 10 scale. Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
