<B>1843-D<$5> Medium D XF45 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 10-H. If the mintage figures provide an accurate window to rarity, this is one of the most common of all Dahlonega gold coins. In fact, the mintage of 98,452 coins is the single highest annual production of any issue at the Dahlonega Mint, including all three denominations. This variety was described as "Large D" by Walter Breen, and it is the usually seen die variety of the date. Many collectors seek just one gold coin from the Dahlonega Mint, representative of the charm of the South. This is an ideal example for those collectors. The strike is not full, or even sharp, but it is clearly finer than usual. The surfaces are only lightly abraded, and attractive green-gold color is displayed.
