1843-D<$5> Medium D MS63 NGC. Variety 10-H. A bold striking with rich yellow-gold color and shimmering, semi-reflective luster. Modest scuffiness in the fields is the primary grade-limiting factor. Production of Dahlonega Half Eagles reached its zenith in 1843 when 98,452 pieces were struck. As might be expected, the 1843-D is one of the more obtainable D-mint issues in all grades. Uncirculated representatives, however, are limited to just 10-12 survivors. At the Select grade level the example offered here easily merits Condition Census status. A minor die crack extends from the rim through the M of AMERICA and peters out close to the right wing of the eagle. Census: 3 in 63, 1 finer (11/05).
