1843-D $5 Medium D MS61 NGC. Variety 10-H. Three tiny die lumps are located between the first and second obverse stars, with others below the 12th star and above 43 in the date. The mintmark is between the V and E in FIVE. Well struck on the highpoints of the design, the green-gold surfaces show some wispy lines in the fields. The devices and the bright, semi-prooflike fields are largely free of coin-to-coin marks or abrasions. In terms of eye appeal, this piece would certainly seem to be undergraded. One of the more available Dahlonega half eagles, the '43-D is often the date chosen for high grade type sets. NGC and PCGS have each certified just five better grade examples, from a mintage of nearly 100,000 coins. Census: 10 in 61, 5 finer (8/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
