<B>1843-D $2 1/2 Small D MS62 PCGS.</B></I> The Small D variety of the 1843-D is attributed by the fine die crack from the stem along the right side of the D in the denomination to the rim. This issue is readily obtainable in circulated grades through lower AU; high-end AU and Mint State coins are rare (Douglas Winter, <I>Gold Coins of the Dahlonega Mint</B></I>).<BR> A well executed strike brings out sharp definition in the design features, and bright yellow-gold surfaces display soft luster and give off a faint greenish cast. A few minor marks are scattered over each side. From a mintage of 36,209 pieces.
