1843-D $2 1/2 Small D AU55 NGC. The Dahlonega Mint struck Christian Gobrecht's quarter eagle design between 1840 and 1859, and these pieces are prized by both type collectors and date collectors. Dahlonega produced few quarter eagles throughout that time, with 1843 being the largest production year, making it the most likely candidate for a type set. That year, the Mint struck 36,209 pieces. Irrespective of the reason for collecting a Dahlonega quarter eagle, collectors will have to work to find many nicer specimens than the one offered here. Of the 450 1843-D quarter eagles graded by NGC and PCGS combined, only 29 pieces are in mint condition. This is a lightly abraded example whose most prominent surface flaw is a long, thin planchet depression above the eagle. Light reddish tinged surfaces.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
