<B>1843-C $2 1/2 Small Date, Crosslet 4 AU58 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 4-C. Die State III with a noticeable bulge in the lower left obverse field, and a heavy die crack through the border to the tip of the bust. This near-Mint example has reflective fields that exhibit light greenish-gold color, surrounding lustrous devices that show strong orange toning. The rarest Charlotte Mint quarter eagle issue, the 1843-C Small Date is typically found in VF and XF grades, when it is found at all. Perhaps 65 to 75 pieces exist in all grades; AU and Mint State examples are extremely rare.
