1842-O H10C MS64 PCGS. Walter Breen, in his Encyclopedia, notes that in Southern commerce prior to the California gold rush, American half dimes were accepted at par with more valuable Mexican medios (the medio was equivalent to a "half-bit," and had 25% higher metal content.) Only a handful of early New Orleans half dimes escaped this powerful inducement to circulate.
Peach and sky-blue toning graces the frosty surfaces of this unworn example. The fields have few marks for the grade, and while Liberty's head and the lower wreath have the striking weakness typical of early With Drapery coins, the eye appeal is undeniable. Population: 5 in 64, 5 finer (2/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
