<B>1842-O 50C Small Date, Small Letters AU50 ANACS.</B></I> WB-101. Small Date, Small Letters. The lack of a crosslet on the 4 in the date confirms the variety, as do the beginnings of a die crack on the reverse between AL in HALF. Curiously, the Small Letters reverse was also used as one reverse on some 1841-O Seated halves, but the die crack on the 1841-Os is more advanced, confirming that they were struck <I>after </B></I>the 1842-Os. Seated half dollar experts Wiley and Bugert write of this issue, "WB-101 is extremely scarce in all grades (but especially above XF) and it is one of the key varieties of the entire series."
