1842-O 50C Reverse of 1839 XF45 NGC. WB-101. This is one of the rarest varieties in the entire Seated Half Dollar series. Only 203,000 pieces were delivered using one obverse die and two reverse dies. This coin displays the O mintmark centered over the F in HALF with a faint, yet discernible crack from the lower rim through the AL in HALF. Wiley and Bugert (1993) note that this reverse die is transitional with the 1841-O and that 1842-O Small Date Halves struck from it were delivered prior to the '41-O issue. Lightly worn throughout, both sides exhibit a silver-gray sheen with suggestions of pale champagne tinting evident at direct angles. There are also some speckled tan-russet shadings around the peripheries. Suitably bold over all but the highest features, the scattered circulation marks are commensurate with the grade. Population: only one in 45, with a mere two finer (2/03). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
