1842-O $10 AU53 NGC. The New Orleans Mint only struck
1842-O<$10> AU53 NGC. The New Orleans Mint only struck silver coins in 1838, its first year of operation. Quarter eagles were first coined at the facility in 1839, and the half eagle was initially struck there in 1840. O-mint eagles followed in 1841, but that issue is very rare. Although scarce, the 1842-O is the first readily collected New Orleans eagle. The present lemon-gold piece has its share of small to moderate marks. However, luster is plentiful, and the sharpness is impressive for the issue.
