<B>1842-D $5 Large Date--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details.</B></I> Variety 9-G. The Large Date 1842-D is one of the scarcest Dahlonega fives in any grade. Only 85-95 pieces are believed known with 80% of those XF or lower. This piece has its appeal. While it may have been "improperly cleaned," as stated by NCS, it nevertheless has extraordinarily strong definition. The surfaces are very lightly hairlined, and the fields retain significant semi-prooflikeness around the devices.
