1842-D $2 1/2 AU50 PCGS. Variety 3-F. The 1842-D quarter eagle has an original mintage of just 4,643 pieces, and Doug Winter (2003) estimated that only 75 to 85 examples survive today. This piece, which retains soft luster at the periphery, exhibits yellow-orange color, slightly deeper on the reverse, with areas of aquamarine at the right obverse field and on Liberty's cheek. Well-defined overall with above-average detail at the often-weak periphery. Lightly worn with moderate abrasions overall, typical for this issue, that include several marks on the portrait and a small dig to the left of the forehead. PCGS has graded 14 coins finer, a number likely inflated by resubmissions (4/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
