1842-C $5 Large Date MS62 PCGS. Variety 5-C. Easily one of the finest examples of this early Charlotte issue. While much more attention is lavished on the exceptionally elusive Small Date variety, the truth is that the more "common" Large Date is itself difficult to find, particularly if one focuses on quality eye appeal. This piece, one of a handful of Mint State examples known today, has an unusually strong strike, with practically full definition on Liberty's hair and the eagle's feathers. The amber-gold surfaces have soft but pleasing luster, and the light, scattered abrasions that account for the grade are well-distributed and do not detract significantly from the overall eye appeal. An uncommon opportunity to own a Mint State example of this tricky issue. Population: 3 in 62, 2 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
