(1842-52) G$1 A. Bechtler Dollar, 27G. 21C. MS63 NGC. K-24, R.3. For the collector of Territorial gold, or of Southern private mintage gold more specifically, this piece represents an exceptionally appealing and well preserved example of the later Bechtler coinage of 1842-1852, produced by Augustus Bechtler after his father Christopher's death.
The frosty luster and light yellow-green toning complement one another admirably, and the striking details are certainly adequate for the type. Interestingly, the coin shows 90 degrees of rotation between obverse and reverse. Under magnification, a few tiny planchet flaws and die rust pits are observed, as expected, but the only post-strike flaws are a couple of wispy blemishes on the reverse. Listed on page 346 of the 2007Guide Book. Population: 6 in 63, 0 finer at either service (1/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
