(1842-52) $5 A. Bechtler Five Dollar, 134G. 21C. AU58 PCGS. K-27, Low R.5. This is a conditionally important representative of Kagin-27, struck by Augustus Bechtler after the death of his father, Christopher. Christopher Bechtler, a German immigrant, moved his family to North Carolina from Philadelphia in 1830, and began privately minting gold coins in 1831 in order to satisfy local needs. This is a pleasing near-Mint example. Medium green-gold color overall, with minimal wear and minimal marks for the grade. Significantly, none have been graded in Mint State by either NGC or PCGS. Listed on page 346 of the 2007 Guide Book. Population: 2 in 58, 0 finer at either service (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
