<B>1842 $5 Large Letters--Altered Surfaces--ANACS. AU55 Details.</B></I> The 1842 Large Letters lacks an exciting Southern branch mintmark, but it is a rare <I>Guide Book</B></I> variety that appears less often than stellas in Heritage auctions. Unlike the Type One and Type Two 1859 to 1861 quarter eagles, the difference between the Large and Small Letters is obvious to the unaided eye.
