1842 $2 1/2 XF45 PCGS. Still very lustrous, with a uniform and very pleasing olive-gold color. A pattern of minor surface abrasions is present on both sides, not inconsistent with peer examples in this grade. A rare issue that is more challenging than even the Charlotte or Dahlonega quarter eagles of the year. Of the 2,823 pieces struck, perhaps less than 60 are known in all grades. Census: 7 in 45, 13 finer (11/07).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
