1842<1C> PR64 Red and Brown NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. N-1, R.7 as a proof. This piece is oddly mottled with vivid sky blue and light orange color. The fields are deeply mirrored with softly lustrous devices. In the 1986 catalog of the Robinson S. Brown, Jr. Collection, the late Jack Collins commented about this coin: "cleaned long ago and now irregularly toning to light olive overlaid with aquamarine iridescence." Today, this example has acquired exceptional aesthetic appeal. Two decades ago, only about six proof examples of this variety (and date) had been positively identified, although today the true population is about double that figure.
