<B>1842 1C Large Date MS65 Red NGC.</B></I> N-6, R.1. Die State a. An early die state with tiny lumps visible in the obverse field, as well as lines on the reverse over NITE and inside N of CENT. The major design motifs on both sides are nicely defined, with some slight peripheral weakness. Both sides of this nearly carbon-free Gem have faded orange mint color with light olive toning on the rims. Surviving Mint State examples from the 1840s are almost never found with blazing orange color; the surfaces usually have subdued orange, much like this example.
