1841 S$1 MS62 NGC. The Philadelphia Mint's sizeab
1841<S$1> MS62 NGC. The Philadelphia Mint's sizeable mintage of 173,000 coins in 1841 illustrates the near-instant popularity of the Seated Dollar among banks and bullion deposits. As this mintage figure might imply, the 1841 is not particularly difficult to locate in worn grades, at least when compared to other issues in this series. It seems likely, therefore, that virtually the entire mintage entered economic channels, and Uncirculated 1841 Seated Dollars are indeed condition rarities.
This is a remarkably lustrous coin for the type as well as the grade with a softly frosted texture. Both sides are colorfully toned in purple-lilac shades that are accented with sea-green tones at the borders. It is uncommonly well struck with nearly complete definition over the central devices. A number of wispy abrasions on the reverse are consistent with the grade. Population: 15 in 62, 8 finer (6/05).
From The Dr. John L. Pellegrini Collection of Liberty Seated Dollars.
