1841-D $2 1/2 XF45 PCGS. Variety 2-C. The mintmark is entered high, leans to the right, and is close to the eagle's right claw. With a mintage of 4,164, the 1841-D is very rare in any grade. It is estimated that only about 55 specimens have survived. When available, the typical '41-D is VF or XF and softly struck. The present XF45 coin is generally well impressed, particularly around the peripheries. Some of Liberty's hair curls are soft, as are the feathers on the eagle's right leg. A yellow-gold patina occupies each side, with some very faint greenish undertones. The surfaces are remarkably clean, illustrating just a few minute ticks here and there. Lot:7552
