1841-C $2 1/2 MS60 PCGS. Winter 2-B. Just over 10,000 pieces were struck of this rare Southern issue. Most went into circulation and stayed there as the majority of survivors today are only VF or XF at best. This is obviously one of the finest examples known. Like the AU58 coin above, this piece has bright surfaces with flashy yellow-orange coloration and just a glimmer of reflectivity in the fields. The striking details are remarkably strong for a coin from this mint and struck during this era, with nearly complete definition on Liberty's hair curls and the eagle's plumage. Numerous small abrasions are scattered over each side with the most obvious one (for pedigree purposes) located just above star 1.From the Ashland City Collection.
