1841-C $2 1/2 AU50 PCGS. Variety 2-B. The 1841-C is one of the most challenging Charlotte quarter eagles to locate in higher grades, and examples with good eye appeal rank as one of the most difficult Charlotte coins of any denomination to locate. This exceptional coin is one of the most cosmetically appealing 1841-C quarter eagles seen in a number of years. It has an excellent strike for the issue with detail on the obverse and reverse that is far sharper than usual. The obverse has a few tiny marks clustered at the point of the bust plus some light hairlines (not from cleaning) in the fields but this piece is truly choice for the date and grade. There is considerable satiny luster remaining on both sides and this is also unusual for the issue as most 1841-C quarter eagles are dull and lifeless. Pretty reddish-orange color is seen on the obverse; the reverse has similar but less extensive hues.
The 1841-C is one of the rarest Charlotte quarter eagles in higher grade. There are probably no more than 100 or so known examples in all grades but the great majority fall in the VF-XF range. Properly graded AU examples are rare and any piece with good eye appeal is very rare. In Uncirculated, no more than three to five are known and most appear to be off the market for the foreseeable future. This coin is housed in an old PCGS holder and it appears conservatively graded by today's standards.
From The Carolina Circle Collection.

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
