1841 $5 MS64 NGC. This is a flashy yellow-gold near-Gem, boldly struck with a bright semi-prooflike sheen on both sides, and showing only a few tiny marks in the field areas. The 1841 half eagle, with just 15,800 pieces struck, is an issue that can only infrequently be located in any condition. Some numismatists believe that the 1841 Philadelphia issue is scarcer than its counterparts from Charlotte and Dahlonega, and population data from NGC and PCGS would seem to confirm this opinion. This piece, like the handful of other Uncirculated coins known, probably originated from a small hoard discovered in the early 1950s. Its desirability as one of the finest-known 1841 fives is almost matched by its importance as a high grade No Motto type coin. Census: 12 in 64, 2 finer (11/06).
From The Freedom Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
