1841<1C> PR64 Brown PCGS. N-1, R.5. This is a proof-only die variety, and the only variety of 1841 that was coined in proof format. Attractive surfaces with fully mirrored fields, enhanced by lovely lilac and pale blue color, along with the addition of green toning on the reverse. The obverse has considerable underlying faded mint red. A small surface mark in the field at the tip of the nose, and a spot at the second T of STATES, serve to mark the pedigree of this piece. Although one past cataloger suggested a surviving population of only two dozen proof examples, the true population is probably in the range of 40 to 50 coins.
