1841 1/2 C Original PR63 Brown PCGS. B-1, R.6. Die State III. The obverse die crack from the border outside star 2, through stars 3, 4, 5, and 6, and terminating at the border above star 7 is diagnostic of this die state. At least two dozen original 1841 Half Cents are believed extant, two of which are impounded in museums (the ANS and the Smithsonian), and perhaps as many as five coins of which are circulated or otherwise impaired. Mottled lilac, electric-blue, and gold undertones glisten beneath warm copper-brown patina. Every feature is sharply detailed, and there are only a few wispy contact marks in the left obverse field. A planchet flaw (as produced) on the obverse rim outside star 5 should help trace the pedigree of this scarce proof. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
