1840-O 10C No Drapery MS63 PCGS. Small O mintmark. Struck from rusted dies that yield somewhat granular surfaces. Both sides are lustrous and essentially untoned, and exhibit well struck design elements. A couple of minor handling marks define the grade. The scarcity of the 1840-O in Mint State is evident from perusing the PCGS/NGC population data, where 16 pieces have been so graded. To the best of our knowledge, an MS63 specimen has not crossed the block of a major auction house since early 1991. A PCGS MS62 coin in our May 2005 sale realized $7,475. Population: 3 in 63, 2 finer (12/07).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
