<B>1840-C $2 1/2 MS63 NGC.</B></I> Variety 1-A. Ex: Ashland City. At the MS63 level, this piece is tied with seven others at the top of the list of currently graded examples at NGC and PCGS combined. This is a very impressive coin. The striking details are well brought up on each side with no obvious areas of weakness. The flashy green-gold surfaces exhibit a strong semi-prooflike sheen in the fields with satiny mint luster intermixed. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending upon one's point of view), there are no singular marks on either side that can be pointed to as a reliable pedigree identifier.
